Jimmy Smith

One of the greatest hammond players in the history of music!

If you have been following this blog for quite a while, you might now know that I am a big fan of funk music. I simply love the way that it makes you feel like shaking your booty.

This time, I want to share with you some music from Jimmy Smith. He was a jazz organ player considered to be an expert on the Hammond organ; he basically founded new ways of playing it that later influenced every organ player from the 1960’s and popularized the use of Hammond in Jazz music.

Jimmy’s style ranges from hard bop, to jazz, funk, fusion, soul, R&B and of course, blues.

My favorite album is definitely Root Down which is a live recording from 1972, this live album has everything you need! Funk, blues and jazz. Have a listen and hear it for yourself:

Wanting some more hammond? Check this one out, it only 2:53 minutes you can see how good Jimmy Smith was!

Dr. Lonnie Smith

An unparalleled musician, composer, performer and recording artist.

Born in Buffalo, New York, Lonnie was blessed with the gift of music. Through his mother, he was immersed in gospel, blues and jazz at an early age.

An authentic master and guru of the Hammond B-3 organ for over five decades, he has featured on over seventy albums, and has recorded and performed with a virtual “Who’s Who” of the greatest jazz, blues and R&B giants in the industry. Consequently, he has often been hailed as a “Legend,” a “Living Musical Icon,” and as the most creative jazz organist by a slew of music publications. Jazz Times magazine describes him as “a riddle wrapped in an enigma wrapped in a turban!” Always ahead of the curve, it is no surprise Dr. Smith’s fan-base is truly worldwide.

If you haven’t heard the Dr. you will definitely love his style and it will make you feel good! He definitely is a healer!

And now see him playing with his new Hammond toy:

I hope you dig it!
